What does a equine portrait session look like?

Every wonder what a equine portrait session with Miriam Cameron Photography looks like?  Follow the TenHoves from start to finish as we created custom portraits of them and their horses.

Herb & Julie saw my equine photography at the Mane Event last spring in Red Deer. (see my photography booth here.)  Julie knew right away what she wanted to give Herb for his upcoming birthday this summer – a photo session with his horse!

Summer came around and Julie and I discussed ideas and details for the session – locations, clothing choices, what to expect during the session, etc. We decided to have their session take place right on their property.  Their farmyard has some lovely rows of trees, wide open lawn with the view in the background, as well as a wheat crop right beside the yard – all good options that would offer a nice variety for photo locations.  Another nice benefit of taking the photos at their property would be that the horses wouldn’t need to be trailered anywhere and would be very comfortable in their surroundings.

I am always excited to meet the horses, getting to watch them interact throughout the session and see their personalities shine through.   I love how every horse and rider relationship is unique and getting to hear their stories is very special.  Julie did a fantastic job of preparing the horses and Joey & Gracie looked ready for the show ring!  Joey is very loyal and a great partner for Herb; you can tell he would always look to Herb for direction.  Gracie is a confident and friendly mare, happy to please and ready to take on everything.  Julie and Gracie have started to do some Cowboy Challenges, I’d never heard of this event before but it sounds like lots of fun and a great way to work on a wide variety of horsemanship skills.

Following their session I met with up Herb & Julie to show them sample canvas, framed prints, and albums.  We went through their images and they chose to order an album for their coffee table and a canvas for their wall.

As much as I enjoyed taking these photos and designing their album, the best part was hearing from the TenHoves how much they loved their photos:

We can’t believe how nice they are!  We expected something good, but these are even better than we thought.  Miriam you were very efficient and good with the horses, very relaxed and well prepared.  These photos will be a lifetime treasure.  Thanks!

Albums are one of my absolute favorite products!! I love the way albums display the images all together; safekeeping the images for many years to come and creating a enjoyable ‘story’ book to look through and share.  All albums I offer are custom designed by me and professionally printed and bound.
